Watauga Man Called Hero For Saving Kids
By Sana Syed
WATAUGA (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―

A Watauga man is being called a hero after risking his life to save five children.

On June 16, James Callahan was about to eat a sandwich at a restaurant on Denton Highway when he saw a van rolling out of the parking lot and toward the busy street.

The five kids were inside. Their mother had run into the restaurant to grab a sandwich when the van started rolling.

Callahan jumped from his seat and ran to stop the van. He got it stopped, but in the process his foot got pinned under the van's front tire and he was pulled to the ground.

He broke his knee and got road burns and a concussion. More than a month later, he's still on crutches.

Even so, Callahan says he'd do it again. "I just think it was the right thing to do," he said. "If somebody else sees somebody in need, please try to help them in any way."

Watauga's mayor and police chief will honor Callahan at city hall tonight at 6:30.

Housing Market is Slowly Increasing

According to tonight's WSFA News in Montgomery, Alabama, the housing market has increased by 12% and new houses are being built. I have seen firsthand how houses are being sold in the area of Deer Creek and nearby subdivisions. That is definitely a step in the right direction.

What's Up With the DOW?

Everywhere you turn all you hear are the words "recession" and "unemployment". This is information concerning our economy that is music to my ears:

Check this out: http://gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx
Found this neat USA National Gas Temperature Map. It shows the prices of gas by county and if you live in the states of Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama, among others then you will love to hear that you live among the lowest rates in the U.S.!!!

The following story actually happened to me.....
My husband and I were walking in our neighborhood the other night and on our way back we noticed something on the sidewalk. It was small and metallic. I reached down and picked it up to find that it was a rather expensive cellular phone. It was actually a miniature computer in my eyes! I tried to figure out how to use it and couldn't. My husband played with it and finally figured out the email function and tried to figure out the owner's name without actually reading the emails. FINALLY, we lucked out.... the phone rang. However, we couldn't figure out how to answer the phone! It was a very frustrating situation, to say the least. Somehow I managed to accidentally click the right button and I was able to answer the phone. I asked the person on the other line if they were the owner of the phone and they were! He was actually our neighbor who lived just two houses down! We met outside on the sidewalk where I found the phone in the first place and the look on his face was priceless!! He appreciated us being honest and expedient in getting the phone back to him. He was a teenager and he said that his parents would have killed him if he lost the phone. We were happy to have found the owner of the phone and feel confident that he would have done the same for us.
